AGAIN, GREETINGS, FURRY FOLK!
By now memberships are starting to pour in, and we are very, very gratified. And enough people have indicated they’ll be buying memberships at-the-door that we’re sure to have a good attendance and a good time for all. This Progress Report is being sent only to paid attending members, and it mostly covers practical information important to those people. So let’s get to it, shall we?
HOTEL INFORMATION
The Holiday Inn Bristol Plaza is located at 3131 Bristol Street in Costa Mesa, just south of the San Diego (405) freeway. Costa Mesa, for those who don’t know, is located almost dead center of the upper half of Orange County, California (Big Help. . .). Now, as to how to get there:
FROM THE NORTH AND WEST: Take the 405 freeway south and continue just past the 73 (Costa Mesa) freeway. Bristol is the last exit before the offramp to the 55 (Newport) freeway. Take Bristol south for one-half block; the Holiday Inn is the first hotel on the right.
FROM THE SOUTH AND EAST: Take either the 405 north or the 55 south to Costa Mesa, and get on the 405 north at the interchange. Bristol is the first exit after the 55 and 405 cross; make a left turn from the offramp to Bristol southbound (over the freeway). One half block, first hotel on the right.
FROM THE AIR TO JOHN WAYNE (SANTA ANA) AIRPORT: The Holiday Inn Bristol Plaza has complimentary busses from the airport to the hotel. Find one and the rest is easy.
FROM THE AIR TO LOS ANGELES INT’L AIRPORT: Ground transportation is available from LAX south to John Wayne Airport. From there, take a convenience bus from the Holiday Inn and the rest, as said, is easy.
O.C.T.D.: Orange County Bus Route 57 & 53 pass right in front of the ConFurence Hotel.
For any further needed information, feel free to contact our hotel at (714)557-3000. And be sure to mention ConFurence!
PROGRAMMING UPDATES
By now we’ve pretty much sketched out our 32+ hours of two track programming. But we are still encouraging people to bring their own ideas if there’s a furry panel they’re just dying to see happen. But make sure to check our program book — it might already be there!
As part of our goal of making a unique convention, all discussion sessions will be held round-robin style. Equal floor time and courtesy for whoever wants it. Proper rules and politeness will be outlined in the program.
SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIALS
The fun reaches its peak at the convention’s very center! Again in keeping things unusual, Saturday night we’ll be hosting a furry masquerade ball, complete with refreshments and costumes aplenty (but come even if you don’t have one!). Regency dancing is a possible feature, as well as a shake-down-the-walls furry dance mix. And, inserted here and there, costume presentations by those who wish to make them. Contact the con registration desk for more details. Also on Saturday we will be proudly presenting a big-screen presentation of Animalympics for all to enjoy. And all this will be followed by the ConFurence spaghetti brunch on Sunday morning!
CONFURENCE T-SHIRTS
They’re here and they’re wonderful! Several styles will likely be available. Prices not yet set, so check with registration when you arrive. Speaking of shirts. . .
GOPHER CALL!
We are in need of volunteers to help with registration, room monitoring and discussion leading for a minimum of four hours total in one day, contiguous or not. Prizes awarded all include free one-day membership and complimentary T-Shirt at the end of the con. Contact us at (714)539-6547 if you would like to help or know those who can.
SPACE FOR SALE
We still have space for dealers to purchase at $40 a table, and we would be most happy to have more comics for sale. Please contact us if you know of dealers who would be willing to attend and sell. Also, we have a number of 4X4 and 4X8 art panels and tables left, but they’re going rapidly. Get in your reservations now!
CONVENTION INFO
ConFurence will officially open for business at 10:00 am PST on Sat., January 21st. Registration desk will open to sell at-the-door memberships late afternoon Friday, January 20th. The convention should close up sometime around 6:00 pm, Sunday the 22nd.
WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED TO KNOW?
See you all soon!
